Tacoma School of the Arts (SOTA) held another extremely successful blood drive on February 24, 2012—138 SOTA students, parents and staff came out to donate for this drive. A BIG SHOUT OUT to the health and humanities students for putting their creative gifts to work on the project. The students made colorful blood drive posters and special treats for donors.
BIG THANKS to Debbie Shapiro, who again served as coordinator for their blood drive, which included organizing a tour of Cascade Regional Blood Services Tacoma Donor Center and Lab for all the student volunteers. Special thanks to SOTA’s administration and staff for their support. CRBS blood drives at SOTA, and all the Tacoma Public Schools, directly support patients in MultiCare and Franciscan Health Systems hospitals and clinics, including St. Joseph Medical Center and Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital. Blood Donors Save Lives! WAY TO GO SOTA!!
- Registered donors: 138
- First-time donors: 103
Thank you to all Tacoma School of the Arts High School (SOTA) blood donors, administrators, staff and our blood drive sponsoring group, Debbie Shapiro’s Health Classes. At their February 18 blood drive, SOTA registered 135 donors;94 were first-time donors for CRBS and our community! These are very impressive results since enrollment at SOTA is just under 500 students. That means approximately 25 percent of the student body participated in the blood drive, which is considerably higher than the results at most of our school drives!
Special thanks to Debbie Shapiro, SOTA’s Health/Humanities teacher and blood drive coordinator. Debbie coordinated a field trip for all four health classes to tour the Tacoma Donor Center where they learned about the donation process, how CRBS processes blood after it’s donated and CRBS’s role in the community. Inspired by the tour, the students used their individual talents to promote, recruit and execute their very successful drive. SOTA’s contributions to CRBS directly support the MultiCare & Franciscan hospitals in our communities, which includes St. Joseph Medical Center and Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and Health Center. SOTA donors save lives!
