Recognition: School Drive Partners

Rogers High School – December 7, 2009

On Monday, December 7, Rogers High School (RHS) held a very successful blood drive. An amazing 197 donors were registered and 120 were first-time donors! This is a great accomplishment for the sponsor group, Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA). Cascade Regional Blood Services (CRBS) would also like to thank the blood drive coordinator, Kathryn Russell. She is the HOSA advisor and Sports Medicine teacher at RHS. Kathryn was instrumental in helping her students prepare for the blood drive and get the number of sign-ups needed to reach the goal. On the day of drive, the students of HOSA and Leadership assisted in the refreshment center, and successfully signed students in and out of class. Their hard work helped minimize wait times and make the day a great experience for everyone involved. Sydney Nichols, a student at RHS, said the drive was, “easily the most fulfilling school project I’ve worked with.” Sabrina Hoops said. “One word….Wonderful! The blood drive was exciting and everyone was anxious to help out. What a thrill!”

Cascade Regional Blood Services would like to thank all of the students and staff at Rogers High School. Their commitment to blood drives is crucial to us maintaining an adequate blood supply to Tacoma General Hospital, St. Joseph Medical Center, and the rest of our community hospitals. We are looking forward to the next blood drive at Rogers High School, currently scheduled for Monday, March 1.

Rogers High School- May 11, 2009

On Monday, May 11, Rogers High School had another very successful blood drive. The Roger’s drives are always one of our largest. At this drive, 166 students were registered, and 75 were first-time donors. Sponsoring this drive was the Leadership class. The students in Leadership did an excellent job of signing up students prior to the blood drive. They also created a new check-in/check-out policy to help the donor flow during the drive. This new system helped ensure students went to and from class at the properly scheduled time, which made for an extremely smooth process.

Cascade Regional Blood Services (CRBS) would like to thank our coordinator, Kim Bullion, for her fantastic support. These great blood drives would not be possible without her dedication. Kim is the Advanced English and Leadership teacher at Rogers High School. RHS leadership conducts three blood drives a year, each headed by a different student within the class. A “blood drive binder” has been created by the students. It is updated regularly and passed on each year to the incoming student coordinator. A pizza party/blood drive debriefing is held the day after every blood drive, which gives everyone a chance to celebrate their successes.

The blood drives at Rogers High School help CRBS maintain an adequate blood supply to Good Samaritan Hospital and the rest of our community hospitals. We are very much looking forward to continuing this great partnership in the years to come.

Rogers High School-March 2, 2009

On March 2, Rogers High School (RHS) held one of the largest blood drives of the year! At this drive, 162 students were registered and 83 were first-time donors! These great results were due in large part to the sponsor group, the Leadership Class. Cascade Regional Blood Services (CRBS) would like to give a special thanks to Kim Bullion, the Leadership teacher at Rogers High School. Her guidance and dedication to the blood drive program is crucial to the success of the drives at RHS.

The students of the leadership class were very helpful on the day of the drive. They ran the canteen, passed out t-shirts and helped sign students in and out of their classes. Their enthusiasm and dedication to the blood drive helped make the day go as smoothly as possible.

CRBS would also like to congratulate the Rogers High School yearbook staff. According to the Puyallup School District website, the Rogers High School yearbook has been named the best yearbook in the nation in its division. The American Scholastic Press Association (ASPA) awarded the school “Most Outstanding High School Yearbook” and “First Place” for its yearbook published last spring. Congratulations to the staff!

The Rogers High School Leadership Class sponsors three blood drives per year, each led by a different student in the class. As a thank you to the class, a pizza party is held after each blood drive. CRBS is very much looking forward to the next blood drive, currently scheduled for may 11 at Rogers, home of the Rams.

Rogers High School- December 8, 2008

On Monday, December 8, Rogers High School held a blood drive that registered 216 donors! This was by far the biggest high school blood drive so far this year. Sponsoring this blood drive was the Leadership group, who did a fantastic job of promoting the drive in the weeks prior to the blood drive. Coordinating the blood drive was Kim Bullion, the Leadership Teacher at Rogers High School. Kim did a great job of helping organize the project and assisted the students during the recruiting process. The goal was initially set at 150, but was raised to over 200 to accommodate the extremely large sign-up list.

Cascade Regional Blood Services (CRBS) would like to thank the administration of Rogers High School (RHS). This school has consistently been one of the largest school drives in the region and has a long tradition of excellence when it comes to service in the community. This could not happen without the support of the entire school. CRBS is very grateful for their support which helps maintain an adequate blood supply to Good Samaritan Hospital, as well as our other community hospitals.

Rogers High School’s Leadership class holds three blood drives every school year. Each drive is headed up by a different student in the class. A “blood drive binder” has been created by the students and is used as a guideline for their drives, updated regularly, and passed on each year to the incoming student coordinator. During a debriefing meeting, CRBS hosted a pizza party for the Leadership students to thank them for their contributions. We are very much looking forward to our next drive which is scheduled for March 2.

Rogers High School-May 19, 2008

On May 19, Rogers High School held an extremely successful blood drive. At this drive, 133 donors were registered. This is a great accomplishment! Coordinating this drive was Becky Binger, leadership teacher. Also helping to coordinate was Peter Collins. Sponsoring the drive was the Leadership group.

The blood drive was held in the school gym, thanks to the cooperation and coordination of Activities Director Peter Collins. Prior to this drive, blood mobiles were always used at Rogers High School.
