On Friday, May 22, Peninsula High School (PHS) held a very successful blood drive. At this drive, 111 students were registered and 28 students were first-time donors. Coordinating this drive was Skylar Griessel. It was her senior project and she did a fantastic job.
Skylar coordinated all the sign-ups prior to the drive and made sure the students were ready to donate at their assigned time. Her leadership and commitment to the blood drive made for a very well run event. Cascade Regional Blood Services (CRBS) would like to thank Skylar for her commitment to our community and for producing a very successful blood drive as her senior project.
CRBS would also like to congratulate the Peninsula High School marching band. They were recently selected to perform at the Fourth of July parade in Washington D.C. in 2010. CRBS congratulates the PHS Robotics team, who recently competed in the Botball regional championship on April 19 at the University of Santa Clara.
The blood drives at PHS help CRBS maintain an adequate blood supply to St. Anthony Hospital and the rest of our community hospitals, clinics and trauma centers. We are very much looking forward to continuing this successful partnership next school year.
The turnout for the fall drive at Peninsula High School was fantastic. They far exceeded their goal by registering 113 donors. This is one of the largest drives ever at PHS. The energy level at the school throughout the day was extremely high. The drive was also advertised on the school radio station, which attracts adults from around the peninsula.
DECA again was the drive sponsor, under the direction of John Selfors. Due to the great leadership of Leah Fujita, DECA President, and Alisa Padilla, the drive was well organized and busy from beginning to end. This group is extremely dedicated and is well aware of the need for blood donors in our community. This need will only increase with St. Anthony’s Hospital opening in 2009. CRBS also supports patients who require transfusions at the MultiCare Gig Harbor Medical Park
Thanks for the great support. Schools provide about 25% of the blood supply in our community. Peninsula High School is a key part of that group. We are looking forward to our next drive and again working with this great group of students and staff at PHS.
