Cascade Regional Blood Services (CRBS) would like to thank all the coordinators for their hard work and dedication to this blood drive.
Diane Paulson is already gearing up for the next blood drive at PLU, currently scheduled for November 23 & 24. “My thanks to Cascade Regional Blood Services for their collaboration with Delta on our first blood drive of the school year and I’m looking forward to breaking another blood drive record at our next drive in November.”
The blood drives at PLU play a very important role in ensuring an adequate blood supply to Good Samaritan Hospital, St. Clare Hospital and the rest of our community hospitals. CRBS is very grateful for the continued support of all the students and staff of PLU, home of the Lutes.
On April 13 & 14, Pacific Lutheran University (PLU) hosted what turned out to be one of their most successful blood drives ever. The goal of 150 donors was easily surpassed, with the final number of donors registered coming in at 195! Of these 195 registered donors, 84 were first-time blood donors!

The blood drives at PLU are extremely helpful in maintaining an adequate blood supply to our community hospitals. The students and staff at PLU have been very supportive of CRBS and our community. This particular blood drive helped CRBS during the Thanksgiving Holiday, a critical time period for our community hospitals. CRBS is very appreciative to all the students and faculty who donated right before their Thanksgiving break.
PLU students and faculty have been extremely active in the community in many other ways also. They regularly donate food to a local church food bank, as well as maintain a community garden. CRBS thanks all the students and faculty for their support in the community. We are looking forward to our next blood drive which is scheduled for January 22.
On September 29 and 30, Pacific Lutheran University (PLU) held a fantastic blood drive. They had their usual goal of 140 over two days which they eclipsed by registering 182 donors. This amazing accomplishment is due to the hard work of the sponsor group, Delta Iota Chi, the nursing sorority and service organization. The coordinator, Sarah Johnson also did a great job of organizing the blood drive. This was accomplished together with our scheduling contact, Kim Kennedy-Tucker, who did a great job of setting up appointments.
The blood drive was conducted in Red Square, which is in the center of the campus. This location lends itself to a high level of visibility to students going to and from classes. The coordinator & Delta Iota Chi recruit donors to sign up for the blood drive at a table outside the café in the UC. They also have a list of scheduled volunteers that work the canteen each day of the blood drive.
PLU, home of the Lutes, conducts blood drives every 56 days between September and June. The sponsor group, Delta Iota Chi, designates a coordinator within their organization to chair the blood drive program for a two-year period. This year, there are three students partnering, Sarah, Nicole, & Ilia, to complete the task. A “blood drive binder” was created during the 2006-2007 school year by a Delta Iota Chi member, which is passed down from chair to chair. The designated blood drive project chair actively coordinates with the Cascade Regional Blood Services consultant to achieve success. The consultant conducts an email campaign targeted at PLU’s prior blood donors for every drive.

Pacific Lutheran University is a model of consistency during their blood drives. The students and faculty at PLU are able to put together successful blood drives each and every time. The drive on January 23 was no exception. This drive was more challenging because it was held in their J-term month, a time when there are very few students on campus. Yet the sponsor group, Delta Iota Chi/ Nursing Sorority & Service Organization was able to put together a drive that was vital to Cascade Regional Blood Services and the community hospitals. Scheduling contact, Kim Kennedy-Tucker/Conference & Events Center ensured the drive went off without a hitch.

Pacific Lutheran University has been a dedicated and consistent contributor to our community as a blood drive sponsor for decades. As one of the major schools in our community, they are part of a group that provides about 25% of the blood supply annually. During the summer months, we really miss not having the students available to provide support for our community by sponsoring blood drives.
Delta Iota Chi and Angela Engstrom helped get things rolling early during the new school year as the drive coordinator for this drive. Kim Kennedy Tucker is always a big help setting up dates and locations for the drives also. PLU was one of the first schools to sponsor a drive after the summer break. The students responded and were able to exceed their drive goal of 65 on both days of the drive, registering 70 donors on the first day and another 84 the next. Their contributions provided a significant boost to the community’s blood supply.
Thanks to PLU and all 154 donors. We are looking forward to our next drive following the Thanksgiving weekend. The time around holidays is always challenging for blood collections, and this is another high need period where the support PLU provides will be needed and greatly appreciated.
Patricia Hernandez, Megan Kemp and Aaron Williams helped Megan Johnson recruit donors at the Pacific Lutheran Univ. blood drive on ’snow day’ last Wednesday. In spite of the weather, the staff registered 31 donors. Speaking of staff, Karin, Yvonne, Stacie and Sandra worked the drive that day, even in the inclement weather.
