Our Lady Queen of HeavenGary Green, the former District Deputy Sherriff of Spanaway, coordinates a blood drive in conjunction with the Knights of Columbus and Our Lady Queen of Heaven. Gary and his team go out of their way to promote and provide an excellent experience for donors. The Knights of Columbus have held a pancake breakfast feed before every blood drive for over 24 years. We are pleased to recognize Our Lady Queen of Heaven and Knights of Columbus as our January 2009 Blood Drive of the Month.
Pilgrim Lutheran Church
Pilgrim Lutheran Church and Linda Doelle, their blood drive coordinator, have been committed to saving lives in our community consistently since 2004. The church is determined to hold successful drives, and even through a drop in donors has rebounded to registering over 20 donors each drive. Linda is so committed to hosting successful blood drives at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, that she has missed our last two donor appreciation events because she was busy conducting a blood drive! We are pleased to recognize Pilgrim Lutheran Church as our February 2009 Blood Drive of the Month.
Calvary Community Church
Calvary Community Church in Sumner conducts two blood drives every year during Compassion Month, usually occurring in April and October. Their first blood drive of the year was held on Sunday, March 8, coordinated by Stacy Armstrong. In addition to registering 68 blood donors, they conducted a National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) Registry sign up. Calvary Community Church has decided to ‘Go Green’ and in lieu of posters, they have chosen to conduct sign ups in the church foyer during and after services. This has proven to work for this three-thousand-member church! We are pleased to recognize Calvary Community Church as our March 2009 Blood Drive of the Month.
Kiwanis Club of Peninsula – Gig Harbor
Kiwanis Club of Peninsula – Gig Harbor and their blood drive coordinator, Kathy Robers, started having blood drives with Cascade Regional Blood Services in December 2007, shortly after CRBS made a presentation at one of their regular club meetings. Kathy started coordinating drives as the President of the Kiwanis Club, and recruited by knocking on countless doors in the neighborhoods of Gig Harbor. Because of her recruitment techniques, the Kiwanis Club of Peninsula – Gig Harbor recruits 25-40 donors every drive. Before their April blood drive, Kathy called over 150 past donors to recruit them to donate blood!
CRBS is proud to recognize Kiwanis Club of Peninsula – Gig Harbor as our April 2009 Blood Drive of the Month, with special recognition to Kathy for her tireless commitment to support the Gig Harbor community in yet another way.
Resurrection Lutheran Church
Resurrection Lutheran Church has been conducting blood drives with Cascade Regional Blood Services for over ten years. Bill Orvis serves as their dedicated blood drive coordinator. The church’s most recent blood drive was held on Saturday, May 16 where 18 donors were registered. We are pleased to recognize Resurrection Church as our May 2009 Blood Drive of the Month.
Pemco Insurance Company
Pemco Insurance Company has conducted blood drives with Cascade Regional Blood Services since 2003 with the help of their coordinator Dale Beckler. Dale is a committed coordinator and does all the recruiting for this drive. In 2004, Pemco offered to sponsor a special t-shirt to promote their blood drives. Pemco usually averages about 10 donors per drive, this month they nearly doubled their average with 18 donors! We are pleased to recognize Pemco Insurance Company as our June 2009 Blood Drive of the Month!
Toray Composites (America), Inc.
Toray has been conducting blood drives with Cascade Regional Blood Services since November 2003 with their long time coordinator Merle Preslar. Since his passing, Toray and their new coordinator Connie Nichols have been working hard to sustain the success Merle achieved as a coordinator. Although their numbers dropped initially, Nichols and Cascade Regional Blood Services have worked hard together to modify the blood drive to increase staff participation and reach more donors. With the modifications and hard work, Toray coordinated their largest blood drive ever in July registering 27 blood donors! Cascade Regional Blood Services looks forward to a stronger relationship with Toray and continued success. We are pleased to recognize Toray as our July 2009 Blood Drive of the Month.

Tacoma Public Utilities
Tacoma Public Utilities has a large group of very dedicated donors and their blood drive program is one of the most successful in Tacoma. Vivian Leach has been coordinating the blood drives at Tacoma Public Utilities for over 15 years. She is well known in our community for all of her volunteer work. Because of her outstanding contributions to our local blood supply, she was on the honor roll of nominees for the 2009 City of Destiny Awards. She inspires everyone around her with her contagiously bright and happy personality and her ability to consistently draw in 60+ donors at each drive. TPU blood drives with Vivian are more like big parties. She has great food donated from Costco and brings in her best music selection. Sometimes, you might even see some dancing going on. This October, Tacoma Public Utilities broke their own record of 67 and registered 70 employees! We are very pleased to recognize Tacoma Public Utilities as our October 2009 Blood Drive of the Month!
St. Nicholas Catholic Church

Cascade Regional Blood Services (CRBS) is pleased to recognize St. Nicholas Catholic Church as the November Blood Drive of the Month!
December 2009
Pierce County Annex has been conducting blood drives every two months for over 10 years. They have a committed group of donors who try to save between 15-18 lives every drive. Faith Ferreria, who works in the Civil Services Division, has been wonderful at coordinating both Pierce County Annex and County City Building blood drives. She continues to help increase our donor sign ups and working with her has been a pleasure. We are also grateful for the help we receive from Carol Johnson, who was able to find an inside room whenever our bloodmobile was unavailable. We are happy to give our December 2009 Blood Drive of the Month award to Pierce County Annex!
