James McCoy – Platelet Donor of the Year

James has donated 289 units of platelets and also donated 10 units of whole blood, which is over 37 gallons total. This is the equivalent of donating every two weeks for over twelve years. Congratulations James on being our Platelet Donor of the Year!

Kurt Hoppen – Whole Blood Donor of the Year

Kurt has donated 186 units of blood, or almost 12 gallons. Kurt believes that donating blood is “special” and “necessary.” Kurt donates six times per year, the maximum allowable amount. Congratulations Kurt on being our Whole Blood Donor of the Year!

Scott Hingst – ECMO Baby Blood Donor of the Year

ECMO stands for Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation, a special part of our Baby Blood program. Scott has been committed to our ECMO program since its beginning and has donated a total of 44 units of whole blood. Congratulations on being our Baby Blood Donor of the year!

Tacoma Public Utilities (Tacoma) – Business Blood Drive of the Year

Tacoma Public Utilities registered over 400 donors during 2008. TPU schedules drives every 56 days and each blood drive averaged almost 50 donors. This isn’t the only time TPU has more than exceeded expectations; this is their second Business Blood Drive of the Year award. They also won back in 2006; however they were the clear leader again this year. Our coordinator, Vivian Leach, works hard to create successful blood drives and takes special care to show appreciation to her fellow blood donors. Her donors have fun and make a huge difference as they help to support our community through their drives.

Graham Emmanuel Baptist Church (Graham) – Church Blood Drive of the Year

Graham Emmanuel Baptist Church has consistently held blood drives every two months for over five years. Lin and her family create a fun and inviting atmosphere for each blood drive by treating donors to a taco feed. Lin’s hospitality and hard work continue to translate into big successes, with over 135 registered donors in 2008!

Rogers High School (Puyallup) – High School Blood Drive of the Year

Rogers High School in Puyallup has three regularly conducted blood drives during the school year. During the 2007-2008 school year, they registered 420 donors. They even broke their own record on December 8 by registering 216 donors in a single drive. This isn’t the first time the Rams have come out full force, they also received the High School Blood Drive of the Year award in 2006 for registering 407 donors.

David Abbot & Mikal Magnuson – Community Inspiration Award

David and Mikal are an inspiring platelet donating team. They met and became friends while donating at CRBS, and now carpool to their appointments every other Friday. David and Mikal have donated the maximum number of times allowed the last several years, and have both surpassed the 20 gallon mark. Thank you for you donations and the life saving support you provide for those in need in our community.
