Chief Leschi School-October 31, 2008

The Chief Leschi School held their first blood drive of the new school year on Halloween. This drive was very successful with 26 staff and students registering to donate. Sponsoring this drive was the middle school leadership class. The blood drive coordinator who worked with the students was Cheryl Mayes.

The organizing group was made up of 7th and 8th graders who spoke with the Student Parent Teacher Association (SPTLA) to help promote the blood drive. They also went from class to class asking staff and high school students to sign up for appointments.

Chief Leschi is a tribal school, operated by the Puyallup Tribe of Indians. The school has already booked two additional blood drives for 2009, one in February and the other in October. Cascade Regional Blood Services (CRBS) would like to thank our coordinator, Cheryl Mayes and the students for the great job. Although Cheryl wasn’t able to attend the blood drive, she found adult volunteers to help lead the students on the day of the blood drive. The contributions of Chief Leschi School help CRBS maintain an adequate blood supply to our community hospitals. We want to thank everyone there for their support and are looking forward to our upcoming blood drives in 2009!

Chief Leschi Schools - January 31, 2008

Chief Leschi Schools held a successful blood drive on January 31. Blood drive coordinator Cheryl Mayes, who is a teacher at the school, offered to set up the drive and was very helpful in getting the donors in. Sponsoring the drive was the Middle School Leadership class.

These groups of 7th and 8th grade students, while too young to donate themselves, were vital to the creation of this drive. They proved how important volunteers are to Cascade Regional Blood Services. These students spoke with the SPTLA (Student Parent Teacher Association) to promote the blood drive and also went from class to class asking staff and high school students to sign-up for appointments. These student volunteers were a key aspect of making this drive a reality at Chief Leschi Schools.

Chief Leschi is a tribal school, operated by the Puyallup Tribe of Indians. Chief Leschi Schools has already booked their next drive, October 31, 2008, and are planning it around a holiday theme. They are very excited to promote this blood drive in the fall.

Schools like Chief Leschi are instrumental in supporting CRBS, Good Samaritan and our other community hospitals. Their contributions are important and appreciated.
