Eric is a proud 2009 graduate of Pacific Lutheran University with a double major in Environmental Studies and English. He will spend his summer job searching and making the transition from college to the working world.

MIKE & SHARON REBAR
Mike and Sharon Rebar have a very unique and touching donor story. Seven years ago, their six-year-old grandson was diagnosed with Leukemia. Cancer patients commonly need transfusions when undergoing chemotherapy, and their grandson was no exception. Ever since, they have been committed platelet donors and come to our Tacoma Donor Center every two weeks to donate. Both Mike and Sharon are retired and live in Fircrest.

BRITTANY STATEN
Brittany Staten has been donating blood since high school and has remained a donor through her years as a student at Pacific Lutheran University. She enjoys donating because she loves the feeling of helping others in her community. In May 2009, she graduated from Pacific Lutheran University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in graphic design. Currently, she is working as a junior designer with Premier Media Group, publisher of local magazines South Sound and 425.

SCOTT HAINES
Scott Haines is a blood donor, teacher and the leadership class advisor at Todd Beamer High School (TBHS) in Federal Way. TBHS has been conducting blood drives with Cascade Regional Blood Services since opening in 2003. Scott and the leadership class hold the record for the largest CRBS high school blood drive. During their most recent drive in May 2009, they registered 214 donors. TBHS was the winner of the 2007 School Blood Drive of the Year. Scott is also the cross country coach at TBHS and helps organize several other projects throughout the year.

TAYLOR ROOZEN
Taylor Roozen completed his junior year at the University of Puget Sound in May 2009. Taylor has become a regular donor because he wants to help others who need the life-saving gift of blood. Taylor recently turned this interest into a school project about donating blood at Cascade Regional Blood Services. In addition to doing research for his English project, Taylor is also working on a blog for UPS that shares information about blood donation and Cascade Regional Blood Services.

TIFFANY MENDOZA: Nurse, Blood Donor
“I attended PLU School of Nursing and started donating blood during the largest blood drive the school had ever hosted. Now I’m working at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital. I see kids getting blood all of the time and I know I can just go donate right down the street. It’s easy and it’s going right to those kids.”

PAUL PASTOR: Pierce County Sheriff, Blood Donor.
Paul is a long-time blood donor. “My father needed blood; my brother needed blood. If you can, you should donate. People really need it!”

KAREN VAVEER: Second Grade Teacher. Mom. Blood Donor
I teach in the University Place School District and started giving blood one Sunday morning when the Bloodmobile came to the UP Presbyterian Church. Giving blood was something that I had always meant to do, but I just never got started. The Bloodmobile gave me that chance. I have continued giving blood at the nearby center and whenever the Bloodmobile comes around. Donating blood is a way for me to share the blessing of good health.

“It’s how I share the blessing of good health.”
